gGadget > Vonage® App Makes Long Distance Calls Free
Vonage officially released an app today that allows iPhone and Android users to make free HD international calls from their smartphones to other users with the same app. Users of the new Vonage mobile app can also send texts to other users for free. This new Vonage app may sound a little like Skype to you, but it’s actually one-upped Skype in one way: international calls to mobile users without the Vonage app cost 30% less than similar international calls on Skype. This means big savings for those who need to stay in touch with less than tech-savvy family and friends who don’t own smartphones.
Vonage has another big advantage over Skype. It works with a user’s existing list of mobile contacts and existing mobile number. So, when you make an international call using the Vonage app, it comes from your cell phone number. And all of your contacts are immediately transferred over as soon as you download the Vonage app for iPhone or Android phones. This means you don’t have to spend any extra time entering phone numbers into a new address book.
You don’t have to be a current Vonage customer to download this app, and it’s completely free. For a limited time, all calls to users without the Vonage app who live in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico are free. If Vonage is able to pull this app off without any major technical problems, it might just become the most attractive alternative to Skype.
