gGadget > The HYmini: Green Power Device
Ever wish your bike ride did more good than just give you a workout and reduce your daily carbon emissions? Now you can attach a wind charger to your handlebar and harness the energy as you ride. The HYmini is a small handheld battery with a fan and multiple ports. You use the wind or solar panels or even the electrical outlet in your house to charge energy into the Lithium Ion polymer battery and then use that battery to power your handheld 5V devices.
HYmini has a USB 2.0 port in which you can insert an adapter to then charge most 5v devices, like your iPod, digital camera, cell phone, PDA and MP3 player as well as a DC jack and an AC-DC adaptor in case you have to charge the battery after the sun has gone down and you have to stay too stationary to harness the wind.
It depends on what kind of cell phone you use and how dead it is, but optimal power from the HYmini should be able to fully juice a 3G equipped cell phone in about an hour. Energy from the wind can be turned into battery juice as soon as winds pick up above 9mph. Once speeds reach over 40mph the device is no longer able to convert power to the battery.
HYmini provides an efficient transfer rate to the 5V devices too. In about 20 minutes the HYmini can give an iPod 30 minutes of play time, an MP3 player 40 minutes of play time and a digital camera around 20 pictures. There are adapters for nearly every different kind of phone jack from Nokia, LG, iPhone, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and more.
There are also armband kits and bike mount kits to attach the HYmini to your movement. Never be without a power source again!
