Yesterday, T-Mobile announced that they will be selling Square credit card readers for iPhone, iPad models, and Android smartphones. The Square mobile credit card reader allows a small business owner to accept credit card payments from customers using his or her phone or tablet. The Square reader attaches to most smartphones through the headphone jack and comes with a credit card payment processing app that syncs up with a company’s bank account. The Square reader has been available online and at stores like Target for a while. T-Mobile is the first mobile carrier to offer this device.

The Square reader accepts all major credit cards and takes a 2.75% cut of all credit card transactions. You don’t have to go through a complicated process to sign up for and set up the Square service, and you don’t have to pay a monthly fee to use Square. This makes this mobile card reader pretty appealing to startup owners who want a more affordable alternative to traditional credit card readers that cost quite a bit of money to install and maintain.

This credit card reader will only cost you around $10 at T-Mobile stores, and it will come with a complimentary app that enables you to easily set up a system to accept credit card payments from your customers. If you’d prefer to save a little money, you can order the reader from the Square website directly. They’ll send the Square reader and an invitation to download the Square app for free. However, purchasing the device at T-Mobile will be a convenient way for business owners to get the card reader as quickly as they want, without having to wait for it to be shipped.
