People often talk about Nikon D7000 vs. Canon 7D. If you’re a photographer, you know how difficult it can be to decide on the right digital SLR for you. For quite some time, Canon was the leading maker of digital SLRs. So, most professional photographers used to just go with the latest and greatest Canon. In the past few years, however, companies like Nikon have been catching up to Canon in terms of camera technology. The Canon 7D DLSR is undoubtedly one of the best cameras in its class. However, it may not be number one among its peers. Professional photographers are, for the most part, pretty satisfied with the Nikon D7000 specs, and many photographers have made the switch from Canon to Nikon because of everything the Nikon D7000 camera has to offer.

If you’re having a tough time deciding between the Canon 7D camera and its competitor, here’s our take on the Canon 7D vs. Nikon 7000:
In terms of megapixels, the Canon 7D has 18, and the Nikon D7000 has 16.2. So, the Canon wins in that department. However, the Nikon D7000 is a much better camera if you want to take home videos. It comes with Auto Focus for the HD videos you can record, which automatically detects the video’s contrast for you. Using the Canon 7D for home videos will result in less crisp and clear video quality. The Nikon D7000 also has a lighter camera body, weighing 690 grams versus the Canon 7D’s 820 grams. Nikon D7000 reviews generally mention the camera’s color depth of 23.5 bits. The Canon 7D only has 22 bits of color depth, which many photographers may consider a deal-breaker.
Although the Nikon D7000 probably wins the popularity contest between the two cameras, the Canon 7D still gets the job done quite well for may photographers. It has 100% viewfinder coverage, which the Nikon D7000 can’t claim. And it has a lightning fast shutter speed of 1/8000 of a second. You won’t find too many Canon 7D reviews that are especially disparaging. Plus, many photographers are impressed by just how quickly the Canon 7D can take a picture. It only has a 131 ms shutter lag.

The Canon 7D price and Nikon D7000 price are in the same range. The Canon 7D usually sells for a little higher than its Nikon competitor. However, prices fluctuate. So, you might be able to find a Canon 7D best price that rivals a Nikon D7000 best price. Or you might discover that the Nikon D7000 lowest price has gone up, while the Canon 7D lowest price has stayed the same. Since there’s usually not much of a cost difference between the cameras, you’re probably going to have to decide which one is best for you based on specs alone.
