According to sources at Verge who talked to sources at Walmart, Barnes and Noble is going to release an 8GB Nook Tablet this Wednesday, February 20. This new Nook with less internal memory is expected to sell for around $199.00 (the same price as the Kindle Fire). However, the official price of the new Nook Tablet is still unknown. And Barnes and Noble has not released any sort of full list of specs. We can guess that Barnes and Noble will include some complimentary cloud storage with the device, to make up for its modest 8GB of onboard internal memory.

There have bee rumors about a Nook 8GB tablet for months. Until now, we thought they were just rumors. It seems as though Barnes and Noble learned something from the success of Amazon’s Kindle Fire: a lower priced tablet sells better. So, Barnes and Noble is introducing an even more entry-level tablet than the one they introduced at the end of 2011.

There’s no news yet about whether or not Barnes and Noble will be selling the new Nook tablet at any other stores besides Walmart. It would seem strange for them to just stick with Walmart, though. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens on Wednesday.

Thanks for your comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the post. I’m excited that the Nook Tablet is going down in price. Entry-level, affordable tablets are the wave of the future.
